Softube's Flow Mastering Suite 2.0 (Review & Thoughts)
Flow Mastering Suite brings best-of mastering tools in one workflow, which makes it easier for the beginners to achieve solid masters and for the advanced & pros to enhance the way their masters sound.
Flow works by featuring a collection of proven mastering chains called "flows" created by professional mastering engineers. This means that you're able to use already-proven and pre-made chains that the pros created on your projects and get that industry standard quality & loudness. However, you're not limited to using strict chains since Softube just updated Flow to 2.0! Let's explore that!

1. Flow Chains
Available flows include Modern Master, Low-End Control, Weiss Master, Organic Rock, Pop Production, Big Rock, Pop Dance, Rock Production, Starting Point, Beatmaker, Vocal Driven, Clean and Wide, and Fast Forward. However, you're absolutely able to customize each of them and tweak every single value using individual knobs within the plugins or using macro knobs.
2. Macro Knobs
You can access each flow with the macro knobs. Each of the macro knobs are named such as "Focus EQ, High Mid Clarity, De-esser, Master Compression, Limiter etc. These knobs will give you great starting points which you can completely tweak to taste. Each macro knob controls a certain amount of features within the plugin they're linked to.
This feature got even better in Flow 2.0.
3. What's New in Flow 2.0?
Besides Softube's great Flow Mastering Suite that we're used to, they released a version 2.0 which now enables you to create your custom chain. You can start from scratch or from an already made chain that you can completely tweak in terms of plugin order & more.
This is great since you can now assign a macro knob to one parameter in any plugin. It's a simpler way of making 1:1 shortcuts to your most important knobs for easy tweaking.
4. Flow Metering & Visuals
Meters within Flow display Peak, True Peak as well as momentary, integrated and short-term LUFS & RMS which are the most important meters you should watch for. Whenever you're looking to meet streaming service targets, you can enable True Peak Limiting.
Flow Mastering Suite also features outstanding visuals for all the possible cases in mastering. You can control the frequency response, stereo width, phase correlation, gain reduction & much more. This is super helpful to make sure what you hear matches what you see on the meters and visuals.
5. Unique Business Model
Softube's subscription model operates differently from other subscription models. Subscribe-to-own is their thing, but in a very unique way since you can collect reward points in order to get the plugins and keep them forever - which means you can use them outside Flow! This is great because you can use them outside mastering - for example Weiss Deesser on some vocals within your mix.
If you're an active subscriber, you can use all included plug-ins outside of Flow Mastering Suite even if you haven't purchased perpetual licenses of them (with credits or real money).
Keep in mind that you can use these reward points on all of the included plugins, which include the legendary Weiss Collection, Chandler Limited and many others. Those are the companies that create legendary gear that sounds outstanding. I personally use all of them in my projects and they're as close as you can get to analog gear.
6. Thoughts
Considering the visuals, the quality and the plugins included in Flow Mastering Suite, it's definitely great for beginners to improve both of their mixing and mastering skills. However, this is not ONLY for beginners. Advanced & professionals can use this too and get exceptional sounding masters. I'm one of those who constantly uses Softube's plugins and I'm definitely satisfied with how they help me to get the masters to where I want them to be. I also like using them in my hybrid system, so this already tells you how great they are.
